Lynda Nash's days are incredibly full. Her time is shared among the Community Food Bank, Saguaro National Park East and Agua Caliente Park. These three organizations provide her with a multitude of responsibilities including hosting children's field trips and working at the visitors' center at Saguaro Park, fund development and event planning at Agua Caliente, and working with Food Plus clients and helping with special events for CFB.
Initially Lynda volunteered in the food bank's warehouse packing food boxes. However, she soon found herself yearning for a position with more social interaction. Her desire to help people one-on-one and her ability to make anyone she meets feel comfortable make her a perfect Food Plus volunteer.
At the Community Food Bank we consider our Food Plus volunteers the key customer service team working with many of our clients. It's a job to which not everyone is well-suited, but Lynda is one of the best. "I've heard lots of life stories," says Lynda. She feels that everyone's visit to the Community Food Bank should be a good experience. That's why she makes it a point to give every client she meets at least one compliment. "For many people it's the highlight of their week to come down there. I think it means a lot to some of the older people to see a friendly face." Some of Lynda's customers make it a point to come on Wednesdays just to see her.
Although her contributions to the Community Food Bank and other charitable organization are invaluable, Lynda has decided to take it a step further. She is leaving the largest percentage of her estate to be split among several of her favorite charities. This wasn't a difficult decision for Lynda to come to; she doesn't have any children or friends in need. She takes pleasure in knowing that her giving will continue when her volunteering ends.
